January is a month of alchemy.

From curling mixtures of frost and smoke, to the crackling of fires and the glittering clear nights, January really makes us use all of our senses. Our ancestors would have used this time to huddle round a communal fire and tell stories, nowadays we huddle around the television instead, but the need for entertainment and the stories of others to distract us from the biting cold, is still prevalent.

In the UK, January is a relatively quiet month. After an energetic end (and start) to the year people often find themselves burnt out and absolutely knackered. That’s why our craft should be focused on resting, re-energising and looking forward at the year to come. I spoke about this in my previous post, but I wanted to put together a BUMPER post that consists of collection of dates, traditions, recipes and witchy goings on that you can lean on to get you through the last couple of weeks of January.

In this post we’ll look at:

-January in Bloom: All the wonderful flora and sights of Spring to look out for
-The Almanac: What dates to look forward to, and how to use them in witchcraft
-A January Ritual: Enjoy a specifically crafted ritual to conserve energy
-January Prompts: Some journalling prompts for your new year’s journal
-A Recipe: Birch Twig Tea? Sounds a bit mad but trust me…
-Divination: If you’ve been thinking of trying it, let this little guide help you

It’s set to be a very lengthy post so do grab a cup of something delicious, curl up on the sofa, and let’s explore how we can make the last couple of weeks of January really witchy…

The Bower Hare is a reader-supported publication, it is thanks to my amazing subscribers that I’m able to write my books, create my art, and keep my allotment ticking over! If you’ve considered becoming a paid subscriber now is the perfect time, an annual subscription is only £40… that’s a whole year of exclusive posts, behind the scenes, and more secret stuff to come…
